Love Disarmed Sterling Silver Flatware by Reed & Barton is one of the most beautiful silver patterns ever created. This art nouveaux patterns features the love between a mother and child.
First made in 1899, Love Disarmed is extremely heavy weight and the figural representation of a mother and child make this quite a dramatic and beautifully decorative sterling silver pattern worthy of the table of kings and queens.
For several decades in the 1980's and 1990's a silverware dealer in Virginia named Rocky's Gold and Silver was doing large scale high quality production runs of Love Disarmed in cooperation with Reed and Barton. They even owned the dies. For a long time they were aggressively marketing the pattern. However, as the popularity of silver started to decline in the early 21st Century and the dies started to become worn, it was not worthwhile for them to pay the expensive amount money to retool them. In around the year 2005 was about the last time a production run was made, and as far as is known, there will likely never be any more runs forthcoming.
The vast majority of the Love Disarmed extant in the marketplace today is somewhat contemporarily made and not from the early 20th Century. It's hard to tell the difference unless you are an astute collector and in most cases there is little to no value difference between the newer made and the older.
This is definitely a gorgeous silver flatware pattern one that any collector would be proud to add pieces to their collection.
